Is anyone familiar with Quest-Pex? Has it been used in plumbing for anyone's tank? I wonder if it leaches anything from whatever plastics it is made of.
There is always a problem if you use name brand that is not know to everybody... From what I can find, Quest/Pex is a brand of PB (polybutylene :?) tubing that was used in potable water (cold and hot). There was some lawsuit associate with the plumbing (obviously not as good as copper/brass in home applications), but I think it is fine for aquarium if you have no other choice.
The reason I ask... The company I work for builds houses. We get more and more Pex optioned in place of copper. Ofcourse I see tons of scraps laying all over.
The Quest-Pex that you can get at Lowes / Home Depot uses brass couplings / fittings - at least for the crimp fittings. I believe that you can get compression couplings that are plastic, but are much larger.
The pipe itself should certainly be fine if you have a way to use it without the crimp couplings....
