Currently have a Bicolour Dottyback and wife was eying a Firefish Goby. Don't want to say no when she wants to buy the tank something but the dottyback can be a bit aggressive.

Other than the Dottyback, tank mates would be 2 Ocellaris Clowns and a Purple Tang.

Actually, my baby Purple Tang sliced open a Purple Firefish the second I put it in there. :( He's always been a little out of kilter, occasionally sampling blue-legged hermits every once in awhile. :?

I have a dottyback and a firefish. When you say bi-colour, what do you mean. Mines purple front and yellow back, i assume that's what you meant. The firefish (i have 2) have never recieved problems from the dotty. Hope that helps.

Also if it's of interest. Was round my friends house last night, and he successfully keeps both a coral beauty and a flame angel. So i guess anything is possible

Putting these two fish together is a recipe for disaster IMO. My lone experience with a firefish and dotty was a Neon arabian (P. aldabraensis) dotty with a red firefish in an 80 gallon tank. The dotty never let the firefish of his hole, and it eventually starved to death.

I've kept many firefish since then, and every one has been reluctant to come out unless it is kept with very passive tankmates.

I assume by bi color you mean P. paccagnellae, which is one of the most aggressive of the dottybacks. This the one?

Indeed, though I have seen it succeed, in VERY LARGE tanks, and ONLY if the firefish is established in a pair or trio before (and I mean long before) the dottyback is introduced.

Yep thats the dottyback i have. It's been fine with my 2 firefish. Guess i'm just lucky.

My friend also has a coral beauty with a flame angel and no problems, i guess as with freshwater fish it's down to the individual fish. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes it's WWIII.
