Just how aggressive or how much of a pain are these?

Looking like adding a Firefish is out and so wondering about a couple of Blue Damselfish.

Current have a Bicoloued Dottyback (P. Paccagnellae), two Ocellaris Clowns and a Purple Tang.

I do believe those little devils could indeed stand up to the attentions of a dottyback. :D

Do they just sort things or will they always be going out each other?

Not looking for fish wars, just colour to go with my Lobophora outbreak.

They should sort things out for themselves, each species has just enough moxy to deal with the other. Once they find themselves at that impasse they'll generally respect enemy territory. Just don't YOU find yourself in the middle of it!

only this morning did i pull all of my LR out of my 29gal to get the little terror out, since he had been in there he has harrased to death two dwarf angels, and thought he owned the whole tank. he would chase them around for hours, but considering you have the bicolour dotty, im not sure what type of massacre they could come up with.

My advice STEER CLEAR! there name is 'devil' for a reason..

yup, don't even consider it. i had one once and it did everything that you wouldn't want a fish to do...nip at corals, hogging the food, chasing all other fishes, etc. it's a devil, allright. do you ever see such a fish in a display tank at any lfs? hmm, i thought so!

I made the mistake of having 2 damselfish in one tank. Boy can they be mean little customers. Devil describes them well. They even killed a couple of hermits heading for new homes.

Keep in mind that not all damsel fishes are so intesly "devilish". I a couple of yellow tails that are fairly peaceful fish:).... I think the green and blue chromis are also damsels aren't they? They aren't all that bad.

Then again.. it makes a differance with whom they are grouped:)

Have a good one!

The Blue Devils are a real PITA and hard to catch in a tank full of live rock. The yellow tail damsels are pretty good looking but don't seem as agressive.

Looking like I'll be passing on the Blue Damsel.

Ideally, guess I want more a passive tank to widen my stocking options but seems as long as I have the Dottyback that isn't going to happen. Tang's okay to the clowns and the Dottyback, just don't like me.

So now I've got two problems, living in Edmonton with a limited selection of fish (at least where I would by from) and how to get the Dottyback out of the tank without a complete teardown.

Trade him for a fridmani. :)
You can get him out easily enough with a trap.

My first reef had two blue devils in it. I also had a Scopas tang, a bicolor psuedo, two ocellaris, a hawkfish.. and now I can't remember what else. Aside from literally pulling my arm hairs out whenever I had my hand in the tank (they were breeding constantly), they got along just fine with everyone else.
