Back when I was younger, I did the same thing, only mine was a Queensland Grouper. 8O

I also kept a Blue ring octopus, only I knew exactly what I had then. :|

He did really good for years, till my mom killed him. I went off to school and all she had to do was put water in the freakin tank to keep the salinity up until I got home to change the water. I came home and the tank was about half full and the SG was off the scale and the eel was dead. ARGH!!!

That is a great looking eel, sounds very interesting. I've always wanted garden eels, but I believe they are very hard to keep. This might be an easier alternative.

you can keep them afaik about the same way as gardens. bare tank with sand bottom. The one I had I never saw it half the time it was always buried. I dont think gardens would be that big a deal if you could afford the space and the time. As reefers I think we all have our water quality up to snuff to keep just about anything.

oh yeah ignore the thing about keeping them with peaceful inhabitants. Seeins how I had mine with a red flag grouper, which also suffered the same fate as the eel.

Hmm I seem to remember reading somewhere that garden eels were really hard to keep. Might have to do some more research, I'd love some of them.

They are hard to take care of for the average aquarist who hasnt had the experience that we have all had with making water conditions pristine. I find it hard that a garden eel would be harder to take care of than corals.

Righty has a garden eel IIRC. You might ask him if you're truly interested.

I have 2 garden eels currently (they actually think there are 4 of them because I have a mirror on the lower back half of the tank) If you need any info let me know.
