I considered it, but that means the SCWD would have to be either inside the overflow or underneath the LR. Both options would be difficult to service. This would also mean the plumbing would have to be inside the tank underneath the rockwork, and I would have to hide it with a thick layer of sand. I'd rather not do this. Yes, if there's a leak I'm screwed, but isn't this kind of true with any closed loop with a low intake point?

I didn't include it, but there would of course be ball valves and unions on the plumbing down there to remove it and service.

i see someone's still drawing on that 20 year old mac, or did you load paint '84 onto your brand new powerbook?

anyways...

very nice design. only thoughts i had: 1) baffles in the sump. don't know the euroreef well, but do they make microbubbles that you don't want pumped back in? 2) sump capacity, like everyone has said. can you run a 20H on the sump? 3) should you have a lid/cover on the topoff tank/container to keep your kalk from concentrating from evap? 4) if you run and iceprobe, here's a pretty cool inline setup: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/showthr ... t=iceprobe

p.s.
heiro's comin' through with the cold cuts...

He, I'm on campus. All those other paint programs are too fancy for me anyway.

1) It'll be a very small turnover rate in the sump, like 4 times per hour. Bubbles shouldn't be a problem. ERs usually don't present microbubble problems either. I do have room for baffles though.

2) I think I can get it so only about 1.5" will drain out, which would be about 4.5 gallons. If so, that would let me stick 5 gallons in the sump when the power's on. The stand is 24" wide, so I can't really fit in a 20L unfortunately.

3) Absolutely. I'll probably go with a 2 part additive system though, and a couple 3 gallon square water jugs.

4) Sweet, thanks G!

If possible with the SCWD try to center it, I installed mine as per your diagram a while ago and it seemed to put out more on the short side and not enough on the long side. I did'nt have a problem with centering it, but used what I had on hand, should have bought the material and done it right considering I had the room.
