...now I just gotta make it work! RO unit came yesterday, everything in good shape, but I'm confused. How does the auto-shutoff valve work? Where to the 2 valves attach to? Also, I'm mounting it downstairs and the tank is upstairs. Should I have the RO fill into a clean garbage can and heat the water and mix it, then pump it upstairs when needed? This would fill upstairs buckets a lot faster, but would be more costly and more leakable. Or should I have it just fill directly into buckets upstairs when i need it? TIA :D

I don't know a daggone thing about the shut-off valves so I hope someone more savvy than me answers you. I'm into 'low tech' solutions because there is less to go wrong and I am plumbing skills challenged ;).

I dunno if I'd want to pump mixed water back upstairs, I'm not sure the cost involved would make it worthwhile. I just let my RO unit dump into a clean garbage can, and then I use a powerhead with some tubing to move the RO water into other containers for mixing and schlep the stuff up the stairs.

I have my RO tubing which I bought like 100' of in white nailed to the wall with wire hangers. It fills a both buckets up stairs and downstairs.

Are you asking about the input/output?

How does the auto-shutoff valve work?

Run the good water line to a float valve in your bucket. The auto shut off valve should be connected to yur membrane, post carbon/sediment should flow into it at the top or input. The good water leaving the membrane should go to a tee then one side to the float valve and one side to the other port on the autosht off vlave.

This is the one I use, there is a downloadable picture of it connected.

This time of year the humidity is dropping and it gets really old hauling buckets. I am thinking of a teardown and move the tank to the basement.
