It seems like more of a novelty that would quickly wear off.

Looks like a restaurant or coffee bar. They're known for doing 'nifty' (read:stupid) things with tanks.

The way I see it. If the fish are kept in good health and they can be bothered to keep it clean then the fish would be fine!

Hell I wouldn't mind one of those but I sure as hell couldn't be bothered keeping it clean!

Well...maybe 'stupid' was too strong a word. You've gotta admit though, it looks kinda slapped together. I wouldn't think the fish would wanna swim straight up too often either....

Well, sure, but it'd still be a huge PITA.

FWIW, Undergrad and ReefRian have a much smaller version of this that is easily removable. It connects two of their 30 or so (?) gallon tanks. Their sixline wrasses have learned to use it and travel back and forth quite frequently.
