I really like the look of Bluestreak Cardinalfish. According to Michael Scotts "Marine Fishes", these fish should not be housed with aggressive tank mates. I have an Atlantic Blue Tang that is obviously an aggressive fish.

Anyone have any experiece housing these fish with tangs?

Michael's book also say to keep them in groups of 5 or more. It will probably be difficult to find 5 of these at the LFS at one time. Could 3 or 4 be kept sucessfully?

Just my experience with tangs and smaller fish--I kept a Clown tang (much more aggressive) with some flasher wrasses, assessors, firefish, chromis, etc. and it generally ignored them. If they're way, way smaller I wouldn't be concerned.

As far as availability, I think liveaquaria.com sells these guys.

I currently keep 27 of these fish with damsels, lemonpeel angels, pyjama cardinals, gobies, blennies and a mimic tang, with no problem. As with any cardinal species, once they get larger, smaller groups will suffer from some aggression as pairs form.

I have a fairy wrasse that harassed a scissortail goby to death, so I had some trepidations about adding spinecheek cardinals to my tank. The wrasse does chase them sometimes, but the aggression is spread among the six cardinals in the tank, so there is no harm done. The rest of the fish in the tank ignore them. I would worry more about aggression from smaller fish like dottybacks.

Here are most of mine. Hard to get them all to pose for a picture.

Those look nice, Dougc. Thanks for the pic.

I went to my local LFS today hoping to snag a nice school of them. He was completely out but said he won't have any problems getting some in soon.

He was actually unpacking a new shipment from Indonesia, so that was a good sign! :D
