I'm trying to decide between two lights. They are about the same price from Premium Aquatics.

1. two 250 DE Aqua Ocean Light pendants with remote magnetic ballasts
2. two 150 DE Aqua Spacelight pendants with internal electronic ballasts.

This will be for softies, LPS, eventually a clam.

On a related note, if they were the only lights would you go with the 10K or 20K?

Given your stated options, twin 250's, 20K.
HOWEVER... given what you're keeping, a single pendant will cover 4' just fine as long as you don't place a T. crocea on the sides. I lit a 92 corner tank, which is 4' wide with a single Geissemann pendant and it looked great.

I was thinking about starting with one and adding a second if it seemed like I needed it. Do I need to be concerned at all about having one light above the center brace?

I keep finding myself drawn to the electronic ballasts. I suppose that isn't a big enough selling point to go with the lower wattage bulbs.

Sounds like a wise plan to me. You don't have to worry about the center brace, just keep the pendant 10" or so above it, and keep it clean. If you're not happy with it, you can always get the second light.
