Hi there,

I have a couple of cleaner shrimps Lysmata amboinensis (got them a couple of days ago), and they don't seem to eat when I feed the tank. They took some mysis from a feeding stick, but I'm not sure that this is the preferred way to feed them...

I'm wondering if anybody target feeds his cleaners...

Thanks,
Mihai

Not really. They'll eat anything and everything eventually. Great for scavenging uneaten morsels in the tank. Feed em well and they'll spawn pretty soon. You'll see a patch of green eggs under the abdomen of one or both of the shrimp when this happens.

Mine are just about anything I put in the tank. I may take then a little bit to get use to the other creatures in the tank darting around at feeding time. Soon they will be mixing it up with the rest of them.

No targeting here. I love cleaners...whenever I put my hand in the tank, he always races over to pick at it. :D

Yeah , first thing that mine go after are under my fingernails. (I wonder why.) ;) kinda gross to see something eating the dirt out from under my nails.

Mine tend to panic and dart all over the place trying to get their share. I love it when they swim upside down at the surface grabbing for food.

I have only one but it does gets eggs under its abdomen. Don't you have to have the pair or it is a female and eggs are not fertile (sp). Also, I believe it does not lay them anywhere just munches on them.

Shrimp do not "Lay" eggs. They hold the egg mass under their tail until it hatches. Once they hatch the shrimp will release them into the water.

Only one? Never heard of that. They must be infertile...strange. Can you take pics of it?

Neon gobies will come clean your hand as well.

My guy goes nuts for anything and everything I put in the tank. I've even caught him wrestling shrimp pellets away from my maroon clownfish.

I get that with my goby... if the goby eats something the CSs want, they go after the gills... then the goby has to swim away...almost looks like he's annoyed. :)

LOL. It's true that they became much bolder since their introduction, but still not cleaning me or stealing food.

Thanks for the encouragement. They seem to do fine, the larger one molted last night.
