If your using one are you happy with it? Is it really quiet?
Trying to make my tank really silent, moving my sumps, skimmer and every thing to my basement and setting up a fish room. I'm thing of having it on a closed loop sitting in the stand below the tank, just want to make sure it is a silent as they promote.

Thanks
Dave

How high is it going to be pumping? If more than 6 feet you prolly want to go with an Ampmaster 4700.

For what it is worth, I have been running an A3K for the last two years and have been completely happy with it in all respects. I like it so much I got a back up as well.

Actually I'm thinking of two.

1) Right below the tank head about 5 feet

2) head about 12 feet this one would be what would flow thru my sump/ refugium

Perfect!

Can work but it will only be pumping 900-1000 gph. Not a terrible thing (its what I am doing), but there is a lot of lost flow.

So do you think the A3k in the stand is going to be quiet enough to be called silent?

The slower flow is what I'm looking for in the sump.(pump 2) Maybe I should go bigger and restrict the flow on the return if it's to much?

thanks

I think the A3K will be very quiet in the stand.

If you run an A3K from the basement, you will have slower flow. Like I said, thats what I do.

I think if I had the money I would upgrade to the 4700 and get rid of some of the closed loop I have - use the 4700 to power these. So, I would go larger, but use the extra power. But without knowing all the details of your system, I cant tell you what I would do for your system.

I don't think you will go wrong either way.

I love mine! Really can't ask for a quiter pump, and was one of the main factors in my purchase. I have been using it now for 6 months and it is as quiet as the day I got it.

How does it compare to the Sequence Dart? I am in the market for a 3k+ pump for my closed loop upgrade. Currently using a mag18.

I don't think the darts are available with the saltwater seals anymore. Not sure though, but I seem to remember that.

I have read that Amp Master is re-working their pumps!
This is from their web site!
Also all Amp Masters mfg. since 2004 have Nutride Treated motor shafts and powder coated front & end shields. In June of 2004, all Amp Master Pumps can be ordered in 230 V, 50/60 Hz configurations for worldwide use. June 15th 2004, Dolphin's optional proprietary Abrasive marine duty seal will be available for use in existing and future pumps. this option is for systems containing sand and fine abrasive matter that use of a/our pre filter is not permitted such as a reef closed loop where the substrate is live sand.
This all sounds great! But how do we know when the pump was made? Is there a date or date code on the motor?

After much reading I went with a Sequence Pro 4600. I'll update when I know how it works.

From what I have seen the Reeflo pumps (dart, barracuda, tiger shark) are still supplied with the saltwater seals.
