I have one big Aiptasia, 3/4 inch in diameter, that came with the live rock I got for my 5 year's fish only 16G nano.

This is probably a newbie’s silly question but what are the consequences of keeping an Aiptasia in a fish only tank ? Is it true that an Aiptasia is only a pest if you have corals ?

This nano tank only has a 15 watt “Power Glo” and is only about 2 months old. Since an Aiptasia is an Anemone, which needs proper lighting, would this imply that it would eventually die ? If so, would removal of live rock from light that have Aiptasia be a natural solution to it’s elimination ?

Many people keep Aiptasia sp. or Anemonia sp. in FO tanks. If you don't mind them multiplying like crazy they'll become sorta like Phlox in a garden. 15w in your tank is enough for them.

Aiptasia is a pest in any tank. They will multiply like rabbits and take over the tank. If you like it, keep it, otherwise get it out before it decides to take over your whole tank.

They don't get as big, however, and for some people, it is the size, not the color that matters ;)

I left the aiptasia alone in my FOWLR tank. It multiplied and looked like hell. I went thru four bottles of Joe's Juice after trying every other method nightly removing twenty or so. I finally got so frustrated I took down the tank and got all new rock.

The remaining rock was cleaned up by a bannerfish for me....I wish I had bought her sooner...

Get rid of it now, is what I say. :D

I have a few Aiptasia in my 125. Since you have a small tank, I would get a few peppermint shrimp before ditching the rock or using medication.

3/4 of an inch now.. but they can grow quite big.. and spread as others have stated.. my bros' tank is fish only and those aiptasia aren't afraid to expand out and flex... one of them was 3/4 of an inch and is now about 1-1.5 inches in diameter.. but it's tentacles are like 3 inches long or more... not a pretty site.
