Hi everyone,
need help here on my galaxy coral as it seems like its protective "coat" or "slime" around its skeleton is wearing off any ideas why??? anyway even if this is happening the coral's tentecles itself doesn't seem to be affected it stills expand them out like it is doing normally so any ideas why??? thanks for any helpful reply that you might post. :D

(edited due to brain freeze 8) )The good news is that shedding slime is not necessarily a sign of ill health, many corals and other inverts do that regularly. I would be keeping a close eye on it though. How long have you had it in your tank?

Well obviously I can't rule out something being wrong with your coral, even if I was an expert on Galaxias (which I aint). But shedding slime alone isn't a reason to panic. And good polyp extension is a hopeful sign. Do you have the means to post a pic?

Somthing to keep in mind with Galaxia coral is that they are extreamely aggressive. If it is in close proximity to another coral or invert it may be having wars at night? I'm sure you've noticed the long sweeper tenticles that come out when the lights go off. These things are faily potent.. make sure it it down current from anything it can sting. A safe distance is about a width and a half. A stronger current will cause the sweepers to elongate even further though.

Also, you said you've had it about a week. What lighting was it use too? What is YOUR lighting setup?

Just some things to think about!

Yup I know that it is a very aggressive coral and that is why my other corals are kept a distance from it and with the pic does it seem like something is wrong with it???

Not a lot of detail visible in the pic, but the polyp extension looks good and that is always an encouraging sign.

Hey Panzz, it looks ok from the pics. Did this coral come from a tank with a lot of light or close to the light? It just looks a little dark/browm to me, could be the pic.
