I have a Precision Marine Kalk Reactor. I like it allot as it automates my Kalk additions and topoff with the LitreMeter.

I usually reload the reactor once every 10 days.

My question is do you ever clean out the reactor? I mean remove al lthe water and left over Kalk and start it over fresh?

I may have to clean the power head that mixes the reactor because its starting to rattle. I would have to drain most of the reactor to this anyway.

What are your thoughts?

I clean mine out twice a year .... or when I'm not too lazy ;) Things to precipitate out of kalk and has a tendancy to settle, so it's not a bad idea to clean and start fresh.

You can clean as often as you like, but IMO it's not necessary. Once everything goes by themselves, I'd usually leave them alone.

The kalk reactor I had is those magnetic stirrer type, thus I do not have the problem of kalk choking in the pump. I often dump quite a lot of kalk into the reactor that would last me a good 3 months or so, or as much as my magnetic stirrer is able to handle.

I only clean up the unit at the time of refilling.

I clean mine about once every 4 to 6 months. Just dump the large chucks of debris out and rinse it well before refilling it.

Its good to cleen it regularly due to possible impurities in the precipitate(chunks left behind)
