Any new pumps I should be considering, or stick with the Iwaki I've been using for ages (still works like a charm)? I'd like something more powerful and more quiet while still reliable. Are the Dolphin/Ampmaster pumps holding up?
I agree Iwaki would be tough to beat - still pretty much the gold standard IMO.
I just got a PanWorld - seems like a great pump but it will be a few years before I know for sure... Also, Gorman-Rupp has a great reputation.
For the large pumps, I agree with Dan, I think Sequence is a good choice. I've never known a Sequence owner that wasn't happy with 'em so far. I just got a 750 series for a pond pump but haven't run it yet...
I have had my PanWorld pump for almost a year now. So far so good.
There are supposedly made by the same person who designed the Iwaki. They are much cheaper in cost compared tothe Iwaki as well.

Sequence is hard to beat. I've been using 2 of them for about 3 years with no problems. For my next tank, I want to try a Gorman-Rupp based on advise from "Roger The Tunze Guy". These pumps are used in industry and the medical field, so they have to be good also. I've never used Iwaki or Dolphin. I think I read on the boards once people were having leaking problems with the Ampmasters, but I'm sure they have the problem fixed by now.
AM3K running for 4 years now...I did have to replace the seal due to restart problems after the first year. Because of the lack of and out right nasty customer service I wouldn't buy another one. I've seen a few Sequence pumps in action, I like em..
