Hi,

I have an IceCap 430 ballast that has the wiring harness but no power cord. On the end where the cord should be, there is a 4-pin clip. Someone told me I should just go buy a cheap extension cord and wire it up. How can I do this or where can I get a cord for the ballast. The clip only prodtrudes a few millimeters out of the ballast so I don't think I can wire anything to it anyway.

In the harness their should be 3 wires that are the power cord. Get a plug or power cord and wire them in. I believe the wires you are looking for are white, black and green.

Make sure you get a grounded 3 prong cord. Lowes and Home Depot carry them in the aisle with extension cords. All you need is a replacement plug.

Call IceCap to make sure that 4-pin clip is not the bulb wire harness... you can fried a ballast if you mess up the wires....

Hey thanks guys. I thought all the wires in the harness were for the bulbs. I called IceCap and turns out the power wires were there as well. The 4 pin clip was for something else. I have cords wired to two PC ballasts currently so I think I'll just take off one of those and use it on the IceCap.

For curiosity seek, and for the love of humanity, connect 110VAC into two of the four pins at random, and let us know what you find.... ;)

Hey Reef Box,

I want to live long enough to enjoy what I'm trying to put together
:D By the way, where do you guys install your ballast? Would there be problems or would too much heat be generated if I installed it between the canopy top and the reflector?

I had mine in two different places. First was under the stand and the second time was on the back of my canopy. Both places worked fine.

These ballast run cool. If you have space issues, forget the heat sink even.

If fan is used in the hood, you can put the ballast there. I try to make my hood as light as possible, and my preference is mount the ballast externally, under the tank or on the side. JMP

I would not put the ballast in the hood. Mine was on the back of the hood. Under the tank would be fine.
