Oceans, These pumps have been out for a while now.

I have the Seio 800. I like it. Lots of gentle current. For my 3 ft long tank I can just about feel the current on the other side. Allot cheaper than the Tunze.

My next pumps for current are going to be rediculous. Im sick and tired of dealing with powerheads.

Can't find out if it is UL listed or if it has a thermal overload (the things Rios lack that causes RIO meltdown syndrome)

If it were me, Id use a couple of Mag pumps and a Squid or two (two for sure). Much more flow and good oscillation.

Without meaning to advocate a RIO pump (I've had my own meltdown experience :( )... You won't get "more flow" until you get to a Mag 7 and the kind of flow you get from the centrifugal pump is much harsher on your inhabitants. These are high volume low pressure pumps (lesser Tunze Streams). The smaller Seio pumps 600GPH while consuming 8W of power (compared to the Mag 7's 70W). The larger pumps 800GPH while consuming 18W of power.

I agree that if RIO can't get their quality/safety act together, good specs don't mean squat, but if these are a better built pump, this is exactly the kind of pump I want in my tank (smaller than the Tunze Stream with the same kind of flow).

Regards,
Ross

Well excuse me Rob if I'm not on the up and up on new powerheads  I just saw a "New" sign on Dr Foster & Smith and jumped to conclusions. I need a compact unit because the space in back of my LR is limited and I want a good amount of motion in water direction. I hate my current RIOs because they are such a pain to position right. I looked at maijets also but they seem a little too bulky. Have you hade good luck with them Chris? The ad on Foster & Smith says that the SEIO is "Compact, thermally-protected pump mounts horizontally or vertically." I'm still a little unsure though, especially if you say you cannot find out if its UL listed hesaias. That hair is psychedelic by the way or should I say Seizureific

I've had good luck with them so far, O F, but I agree...they are a bit bulky.

FWIW, I've ran a few of these pumps since they came out and I had one burn up a few months ago. It didn't pollute the tank like my Rio did when it bruned up but never the less it did burn up. 3-5 months isn't all that great for a 50.00 pump..

I've been running 2 of them for about 3 months now and am very happy with them. I know they have thermal protection, but I am unsure about UL listed. I also remember reading that they are oil free as well. Can't complain at all. The pair work nicely in my 8ft tank as supplemental circulation.

Ehiem's Aquaball is good, dont know about this Aquaglobe, looks like someones trying to cash in on a good idea, it looks like a piece of cheap crap anyhow. I second the Maxi Jet, or Mini Jet if your wanting something smaller.

But realisticly scpeaking, closed loop is the way forward, and get a decent pump and throttle it back, will probably last you forever then.

I have no exp with the tunze pumps, but have heard nothing but good stuff about them. I have a Mag7 and 1 Squid with two returns, and that system has been in service for over a year with no problems. In my tank are some LPS and an H. crispa with a mated pair of A. ocellaris . he rotating flow has not caused any ill effects I have seen. I might like to set up a system with a Tunze to see the diff.
