When you use RO, do you end up dosing the tank to restore proper balance of disolved minerals because you totally stripped the water of everything good and bad? Calcium, mag., etc?

If so, what do you use? What amounts, etc.

I use the salt water in the tank to restore the proper ionic balance of the RO used in top off.

More explicitly, top off water should be as stripped as possible, and no mineral/ion need to be added.

For topoff I add Calcium hydroxide and for water changes I rely on the salt mix to provide everything.

Good salt mix and a kalk drip are all you should need.

Only the water evaporates, all the salts, minerals etc stay behind.

Your corals and the fish waste will consume minerals, that is replaced with water changes and supplements. (kalk, Ca reactor, 2 part...)

I don't even dose kalk.. - I have so little uptake theres no point.. - Water changes just for cleanliness sake replenishes what painfully little is taken up for me.

If I had a large number of stonies (or a larger tank where it wasn't so easy to do large changes) I'd most likely feel a bit different but heck, I still get strong coralline growth even when I get lax and don't change the water at all for a couple months..

And yeah, my RO's workin great too.. - Stays at 0 TDS for several weeks in the non-circulating storage container (as long as I keep it sealed.) Leave the lid off for a few days though...? - Yuck! - Jumps to like 35-45 TDS.
