One of the heads of my candy cane has turned half white.

Is this a sign of bleaching? I already epoxied it to the rock, because it seemed to be doing well before, and I didn't want it to get knocked over. Should I snap it off the rock and put it lower in the tank, or will that just stress it more?

How do you know when a coral has died? :(

I notice some kind of small feater duster looking polyp coming off of one of the neighboring canes. Both the whitened cane and the one with the little polyp looking thing on it have not opened for about 1-2 weeks now. What should I do?

Thanks

Notice the yellow region of the one in the upper left. Since that pic .. the white on the donut region (that inflates) has intensified. :(

A coral is officially dead when there is no living tissue on it, and all you see is just the skeleton.

Sounds like it is bleached due to stress... if you give it more light than it used to, move it lower a bit. Otherwise, if everything is fine, and you did not change any parameter, it is best to leave it alone, and keep your fingers crossed.

He said it is only on one of the heads. I agree with others that there is nothing to worry about, since the rest of the colony looks fine.
