hey guys thanks for the info on the last thread about the new 55 that I posted. You all said the same things that I was thinking: Dragon eel, or sea dragons. I read alot on both of them and figured out that sea dragons are about impossible to get ahold of and are way expensive so that rules them out. The Dragon eel worries me in that everything that Ive read said that are very bad for crawling out of the aquarium, so any info on escape proofing a 55 would be killer. The other big problem Ive had is no one ever says how much it would be to get one, Theyve always said "alot" or "a pretty penny" Ive never gotten a round number although im assuming on the 400 dollar mark. Also If anyone has anymore literature on them that they think might be useful I would love to read it. Book suggestions or website links. I still have a lot more research to go before I get one so that gives me a lot of time to finish saving, ive got close to 200 beans right now, and I wont get one untill Im one hundred percent sure of everything I need to keep him fat and happy. So basically im asking for any suggestions on these big fellas, lighting, tricks, what have you. Just trying to get as informed as possible.

thanks.

I'll assume you're speaking of the Hawaiian dragon moray, Muraena pardalis. I have extensive experience with these animals. While they are hardy and easy to care for, they are too large for your 55 gallon tank. The grow fast as well, so don't think you can get a small one and get away for a year with such a small tank.
Stick with a snowflake for chain link moray.

True, I knew they got huge, but I figured I could do what you just told me not to do. In that case, what would you get if you were me bud? other than starting a reef tank (which looks like its on course to be one.)

I'd stick with a snowflake eel if you're set on a moray.
Other than that there are so many choices! :D
You could also put a huma huma trigger in there with the eel. ( I can't remember if you have inverts or not though.)
Sixline groupers make nice solo pets too - lots of personality. Various other triggers and groupers. Dwarf lions... the list goes on, and on...

Yeah i was thinking something along the lines of a picasso trigger, I have no inverts in the new tank, it is fresh, not even cycled yet actually, im going to cycle it with some blue damsels and put them in my little 29 reef when I get whatever it is that im going to get. But Im just trying to get options as to what to put in it after it is matured. I had a huge blue spotted grouper once a long long time ago and loved him. I also had a spotted sand eel that i loved. What I really want is a blue ribbon eel. Although Ive NEVER seen one eat. I tried my hand at it many years ago and tried everything in the world to get the fella to eat, but he wound up starving himself. I havent seen anything online about sureshot methods to get them to eat, so im not even going to bother taking the risk of killing something. I have just been really indecisive about this, its in my living room and I want it to appeal to people so that they will stop and ask questions and learn about the environment a little. Dude if you could have one fish, just one fish, what would it be. In other words, what would you do if you were me?

One fish = undulatus trigger. Hands down, no question.

what the hell? this seems like a pretty lame thing to put on a index

Other comments : I have had the pleasure of having most of the available triggers, and have truly enjoyed all but one. I took my undulate trigger back after four days. If you value your tank, don't ever get one of these.

I got this from this link:

Oh, erm btw, you may want to sit down for this, but $400 is nothing for a Dragon Moray, infact £400 isn't even close, try more like £1500. 8O

I saw a "banana eel" at the store the other day that was really cool; if that's milaris it only gets about 2 feet I think.

Seconded, not to mention limited availability.
