On IT BBSs sometimes it is impolite to ask a rehashed question that could start a flame war. If I am doing that, I appologize... Anyway, rather than sit here on the midnight shift, in South Florida, watching feeder bands from a massive hurricane come in on the radar, I figured I would turn my mind to my fish tank.
On to the relevant part of this post. My setup effort of a new system is underway (previous question posted on lighting earlier this week, for example...). I have a 90 gallon display and a 29 gallon sump both purchased from my friendly neighborhood LFS. This sump is divided into two main chambers (neglecting the baffles sections). Now, the LFS provides basically an entire sump package of the chamber itself, a small PC light, algae, and (drum roll, please) "Miricle Mud" for an algae bed in one of the chambers (other chamber for skimmer or pump or whatever, in my case due to limited space, both...).
Having never really investigated Miricle Mud before, I just took the boxes he handed me, and they sit ready to go in should I put them in the sump. Some websites out there claim great things from the stuff (some of which look like legitimate users of the stuff, and some look like marketing hype) and others claim it is silicate and may or may not have any harmful or useful trace elements. Reading that, it looks to me like my better bet is to ignore that stuff and just use some reputable argonite sand in the chamber. Anyone got advice they could offer?
For anyone who may read this that advised me on my lighting decision, I did go with the 2 250 Watt MH and 2 110 Watt VHO beastie.
