I have a 40 gal tank with a 20 gal sump. I have a turbofloater multi that i am using as an in-sump skimmer. I have never had any problems with it up until the past few months. im not even sure that I have even have a problem now. What I have noticed is the lack of skimmate that it is producing. Previously I had a problem with nitrates, I finally hit 0 on those about 6 months ago. and have maintained 0 since then. when i had high nitrates I always had tons of skimmate being produced. but since my nitrates are down, the skimmate that is being produced is very small. Is this normal? The skimmer itself is producing bubbles as it should.
I have 2 small cinnamon clowns, a dusky jawfish, a banggii cardinal, a mandarin and a kole tang (leave me alone tang police!! :P )
cal 400-450
alk 3.5-4.0
sal 1.024
ph 8.1 - 8.2
amon 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0

Throw it in the garbage and puchase a Seaclone 150. Just kidding. I have never had one so I can't help but I wuld suggest contacting AquaMedic for trouble shooting your skimmer. My guess is its related to there Needle Wheel.

Once a year, we are supposed to take these things (skimmers) apart and clean them. If that doesnt work, try dumping a lot of food in the tank (just kidding).

Ok...good point. I now service my Seaclone weekly to make sure the air intake is clear and the water level in my tank is high enough. You must get to know your skimmers personality.

Remember that sometimes the skimmer might be doing its job, there are times when my skimmer pulls less because it's been doing its job. Less inthe cup means less skim for it to pull. Just my $.02

Have you been touching your tank and the skimmer alot. They oils in your skin usually stop it from skimming.
