small flea problem

I have a small flea infestation in my carpet directly in front of my tank. They originated from a dog that no longer lives in the house, so how can I get rid of the fleas safely without using chemicals that could likely end up in the tank like carpet flea powders.

We went through the same problem this summer. With no host (dog, cat...) the adult fleas should die off soon enough. For now, vacume the area frequently to suck up any eggs or larvae that remain. You should do the whole house, not just in front of the tank.

Carpet wash with hot water.

The fleas cant like the hot water and its alway impressing the color the water get.And no chemicals...

You can do the light bulb pan of water trick. Put a baking pan 1/2 full of water on the floor in front of the tank, lean/hang a bare bulb lamp over the water, the fleas will jump at the warmth/light and land in the h2o. We used this in our daughters room when she was an infant. We caught quite a few.

Fleas can not live long without host(animals) so washign is cheaper and as good.lol

They can't live on humans.they just bite and die.

There is special soap you can use to kill them also. If worse comes to worse use flea shampoo on the carpet. Now may be a good time to invest in a steam cleaner because you are probably going to need to shampoo the rug several times.

Can't you just vacuum them up a couple times a day until all the eggs hatch?

a shop vac with steam cleanign atachment is not verry expensive yet verry useful. Can clean car and carpets and even suck up water changes cause shop vacs are wet dry.lol. or rent the carpet steamer for about 20$ and i would bet a red one that all flees are gone...... If u have no pets harbourign the fugitives...

Not since we tried this trick.

We had house sat a friends dog and he left fleas. I know it sounds odd but it really worked. You know how new parents are, no pesticides etc.. around the babe!

Burn the little suckers with a magnifying glass

1) Lie on floor in front of tank, watch fish for 5 minutes.
2) Run outside and brush yourself off.
3) Repeat above procedure until fleas are gone.

I've done the repeated vacuum method. The vacuum actually stimulates the eggs to hatch, which is a good thing because we want to get rid of them quickly. Vacuum several times a day and soon they'll be all gone.
