I doubt that can save it from the doom. But I can bet the one who said this is selling iron supplement, and has a bottle ready and handy for you to buy.

The outlook is not good Panzz. I would avoid these corals in the future.
Good luck

One question no one has asked... how long have you had it? If it was recent try moving it to a lower flow section of the tank. I bought an Alveopora 6 months ago and learned that lesson.

FWIW, I've heard that Goniopora are harder than Alveopora but mine is still doing great w/ no signs of recession at the base... mine seems to like my higher nutrient content and doses of Combisan.

My Goniopora is not actually at the edge of its death, it still opens but not extended and usually for a short time and if iron could really benefit my coral then I would give it a try. Anyway Thanks for your help!!! :D

That brings me to another question..Why do LFS owners insist on selling this coral with its lack of survival? They know it doesnt do good in the home aquaria..Last time I was at the LFS, one of the clerks had suggested to another patron, its hardy but is short lived...?? Its short lived because its not hardy IMO...A few months at best when in the wild they survive much longer periods...Its like flame scallops..They dont survive in the home usually for long..The feeding demands are extemely, demanding..enough of my rant..sorry bout the hijak..carry on :D

I have Goniopora too, mines been alive and kicking for well over 8 months now. And my gems of wisdom for proving em all wrong :

Live phytoplankton
Low to medium water flow
DO NOT over skim. Goniopora thrives of what's in the water, over skimming and pristinely clean water kills it's food. I keep it away from my skimmers return flow (as it's clean water coming out) and near an algae encrusted wall of the tank that my regal and purple tangs pick at.

I in no means claim to be the expert here, just repeating what was said to me by my local fish shop, who in fact did warn me about it's lifespan.

I'm doing well so far. And thanks to East Midlands aquatics of Nottinghamshire UK, for the info and being so upfront and honest. And no i do not work for or endorse them in any way, just a thanks to a good honest marine shop, there should be more of them !!!

Edit :

Scrolling back : Flame scallops !! What's not long?? Mines been in and over lively for about 9 months now. I hate the thing but my partner loves the little blighter.

Hi all,
I have had a Gonapora for two months now and its one of my best corals.I've positioned it under a 250w halide 6'' from surface in the flow of my skimmer return.Since buying this coral it has extended 2'' in length.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Is it the red variety?
The reason I ask, (to little avail it seems) is that the red ones do just fine for many people. The green ones almost always die, often 6 months down the road. Good job either way.

Actually, quite a few people have been able to keep them alive for up to 2 years, but then they would sudden take a turn for the worst and die.
Having it live for this long is not considered a success.
