clownfish breeding and mad as hell

I noticed my percua clowns are breeding in my 58gal. Female is fighting with my flameback angle. Should I remove but clowns and try breeding them in their own tank. If not how do I stop them from fighting. Tank raised clowns. Is it hard to breed them? I do have extra tanks. Thinking setting up a 20 for clowns.

Raising clownfish takes some commitment.

You will have to set up a rotifer culture, and then have something to feed the rotifers, and have a seperate tank to rear the babies in. If you are serious about breeding clowns, pick up Joyce Wilkersons book "Clownfishes."

I would think a flameback angel could hold it's own against a percula clown in a 58. Are they really causing trouble? Or just an occasional spat?

I've been watching these two and noticed percula female gave a nice body wound to flameback. Not deep but scales show injury. I don't want to chance it so I will removed two perculas. If they breed I will buy that book and be patience about it. I only breed bettas 2x so never did saltwater fish. I like a to give it a try if it happens. I would like to replace the two perculas in 58gal. What should I replace it with. Following fish

1 purple firefish
1 flameback angle
1 bio color bennie
1 royal gramma
1 red blood cleaner shrimp fish
1 cleaner shrimp

Removing two percules ...... Would adding one tomato clown be alright or to nasty

Speaking from experience, percs are tame compared to tomatos. I have a pair, they don't breed cuz the male is quite small. But the big'un has a mean streak when it suits her. Keeps all the other fish in-line most ofthe time. Have had these for almost 2 years i think. I added a Kole tang that was of equal size butin the end not of equal temperment.

IMHO, i wouldn't do it. I say remove the percs or the angel. Tough call i know.

I would NOT get a tomato to replace the perculas, tomatoes are quite aggressive compared to percs.

You have a very nice mix of fish in there, maybe a goby would be nice? There are a wide variety of gobies out there, some are tank raised like neon gobies, just be sure to research the species first because some gobies have special needs. Or maybe a nice fairy wrasse? I just love fairy wrasses.

I fully agree with Laura D about the book recommendation. Wilkerson ought to be required reading for people breeding clowns.

I've been breeding ephippium clownfish for the last year. Forget about putting anything in the tank when they decide to breed, including your hand, LOL. I think they could lay a whoopin' on a maroon anyday.

Yes tomatos are aggressive in comparison to percs..however a better replacement might be a pair of skunk clowns..I believe they are more passive than tomatos, clarks, and definitely maroons. Dont chastise me LauraD if im wrong :wink: im only saying this cuz ive never heard bad things about skunks but again research is always paramount...
