Hi people,

I'm after some info here. I have a 66 Gallon set up still going through the cycling process. I am not totally worried yet, but more curious. Has anyone experienced a bacterial bloom while setting up a system and noticed that it is almost always gone during the evening through to morning hours. My system gets cloudy during the day only!
Crystal clear at 6.30Am then gets cloudy again during the day until about 9 PM!

Does anyone have an answer for this phenomena?

I know the system is stabilising as the bacteria is getting used to it, and I know this will settle down, but am just curious!

Regards

That's how my bac. bloom was. Worse when the halides kicked on. But not bad 1st thing in the morn. Good thing it lasted less than a week and the pods followed right after the bloom. Now I'm clear and pod infested.

you most likely have an algae bloom. That is the reason the tank clouds up with the lights on. The cloudiness is probably micro algae. If the tank is new and you have little to no bioload then the algae and other plant life will consume the nutrients and the cloudiness will diminish.

Bacteria, micro algae, or suspended junk the best way to clear the system is to use plant life. That will out compete the micro algae by consuming the nutrients feeding the micros, hair, slime and other "uglies". Additionally, plant life filters out things like phosphates that can cloud a tank.
