i am tired of my magnet cleaners falling into the tank when i turn the corner, is anyone using the floating type? i am afraid that they aren't strong enough for my half inch glass.

I use to..I had the same problem and also didnt feel it did a good enough job cleaning the glass...now i use a Kent glass scraper...Yeah you have to stick your hand in the tank but it is a hell of lot more effective then the magnets IMO

I have a Pirhana magnet. It's a floating magnet that is really, really strong. They're a little bit more expensive than some other options, but they are top notch; they clean the glass very well, and handle corners no problem.

... I do not work for, nor am I otherwise affiliated with, them.

I use the mag float, but it may not be strong enough for the 1/2 glass....but it may be worth a try. Go for the large size.

I have the tiger shark floating magnet from Algae Free LLC. http://www.aquariumcleaner.com/floating.html

I have no problem with this magnet what-so-ever. It is strong enough for my tank (3/4" thick glass). The 2 pieces turns around the corners with ease and rarely do I have to reach into the tank to pick up the magnet again.

I love my mag-float, one of the best maintenance tools I ever bought for my tank.

I hate the kent proscraper, its hard to get into tight spaces.

I luv using the magfloat as well, just as long as you watch that you do not take it too close to the sand/substrate. If it is stirred up, little peices can get between the magfloat and the glass = nasty scratches. Recommend not going near the bottom.

I guess Im the only one not in favor of the mag float..I cant say anything on the other brands as I have never owned one...Anyways I still like my Kent proscraper....The only tank I use my mag float on is my mantis tank since there is virtually nothing in there..just some LR, no coral or anything else...

I have a mad float that I used on my 110. It was a bit weak, but the glass was over 1/2" thick. I like the floating magnets, but will go with either magnavore or algae free for my new 1/2" thick acrylic tank. Get a floating magnet you will not regret it.

I like mag float too. I also have a pair of super-strong and much more expensive magnets (no need to float because it is too strong to fall off). I like the magfloats better, even with stronger magnets I need a scraper for the really tough corralline & stuff, and the magfloat gets the other easier stuff just as well as the pricey one. And, it doesn't wear my arm out to move it around.

Yeah, I did that - I super-sized my magnet (used the largest one on my 90gal) and scratched my glass tank. Watch it with the size. Larger is not always better...

I use a Mag-Float brand magnet on a 4' deep acrylic tank (not a typo)...I think it's 1.5" thick acrylic. Works fine for me.

Just be careful, I have a magfloat and as i turned the corner on my acrylic tank i smashed a very small snail on the front glass and then proceeded to clean not knowing he was there until i saw the nice scratches starting to show.
