guess i shud be more specific. tank is empty, so got tired scrubbing w/vinegar, so took a razor to it. the pumps were more difficult so they didn't get cleaned as well.

I think the best but not everyone will agree muratic acid do it outside the fumes are bad rinse well afterwards

I would agree. Although this might ruin seals and some plastic. Vinegar works best but using a razor blade on a glass tank works fine.

If it's old, dead coralline, it should scrape off easily. I know because I just set up my tank after it was dry for 6 months. The old coralline just flakes away. What I didn't get was quickly eaten by my mexican turbos. They even got the coralline that grew on my silicone. Beauty.

One more vote for the ole vineger soak. Overnight should do it. For the tank dampen a paper towl with vineger and wipe it down before you start scraping with the razor blade..
