I was just reading some archived posts regarding linkias, and some were talking about keeping SG fluctutaions to a minimum. What are acceptable SG fluctuations? What would you consider too large of a fluctuation?

I guess another way to look at it...I've got a 75 gal tank and I keep the SG at 1.024 pretty much right about there, but how much fluctuation is tolerable? How many gallons of water need to be evaporated to have too much fluctuation?

I've had a blue linkia for a few years. Last fall, I realized my hydrometer was broken and my SG was actually 1.030. Granted, the SG climbed up slowly, but the linkia hung in there just fine. I slowly decreased it and now we're hangin at 1.026. In terms of daily fluctations, I've done water changes that have changed my SG by at least .005, with no ill effects.

Of course, keeping the SG steady is always desirable!

The fluctuation is not that bad as long as its slooooooooooow. Ideally, very slow (over days).
