I am looking to upgrade from 60gal total to 120 gals. I have an aqua medic protien skimmer in a sump with a refugium attached below a 36" bowfront. My lights are orbit compacts 2- 65w 10000K and 2-65W 10000K actenic. I might have spelled that last word wrong.

Anyway, I mainly keep xoo's, xenia's, which are going nuts, and mushrooms. I also have 2 BTA's. Oh, two clowns and a small goby. I want to add an ozonizer!!!!!!! I have read lots of good things about them and weighed the pros and cons between them and UV sterilizers. Lets say, the Ozonizers won that contest. But, I have not found anyone in my area that actually has one. I am in Baltimore, MD and I want one that will work with my protien skimmer.

So, who has one, what do you have etc.............

Hi and :welcome:

I'm going to move this into the main discussion forum (General Reefkeeping Discussion) where you'll be more likely to get some input from ozone users. I'll leave a copy in the NRF as well...

What good things do you heard about both UV and O3?

FWIW, I am not a big fan of either gadgets, and I wonder if I am missing something.

I run ozone. I bought the cheap Enlay model off e-bay it's 300 l/h. They work best with an air drier and the ozone injected into the skimmer. The skimmer output should flow through carbon to avoid any excess ozone making it into the tank. Ozone is an oxidizer, and while it breaks down quickly it will cause gaskets and seals to disolve if they are not ozone resistant. Ozone improves skimmer performance dramaticaly. You really need an ORP (oxygen redox potential)controller to use it properly though. An ORP reading above about 450 mv can be dangerous. I ran mine with just a monitor for a while until my ORP hit 570 mv. It's now on a controller and it stays about 420 mv. It does make for very clear water and breaks down compounds for the skimmer to remove easily.
