I feel the only limitation should be the cost of the system.

Well, since I'm just setting up a 30, I'd say 30 and under. ;)

I think one consideration should be NO PLANTS ALLOWED.

Peace,

Chip :P

i would put it up there as an option but something has changed with the way you edit a poll and i am too dense to figure it out...

something else, you might not be able to enter your tank though if you are far along in the project.

Just a thought-if you allow any tank config then it would be easy to just go buy a nanocube and dump some water in it. Walla, a tank. All you need is LR, some sand, and eventually some coral and you done.

IMO this contest should be a little more challenging. :P

I like the 20 and under. If it were up to me I would pick between 10 and 20. Not much difference in price or equipment used. I think under 10 and over 20 you are not making a decent comparison.

I'd vote 10 or under so as many people can participate as possible. Or maybe split the competition into 2 categories: 20-10 and 10-under depending on how many participants are doing it. Is there a head count?

I think the limit should be put for the display tank, but no limit for the connected sump.

More volume of water will help stablize the overall water quality of the setup. It doesn't matter how big of the sump/refugium to get, as long as everything stays within the cost limit.

I agree...or if you DO at plantlife, it should be added LAST as an afterthought, and only in small amounts. No tap water either, that should be another rule.

No tapwater?

I'm not sure how many people want to pay 300 bucks for an RO/DI unit for this contest.

I'm just giving Bob a hard time. :)
Aside from that, I NEVER use tap water, and I dont' have an RO/DI unit. I purchase all my top-off water. :?
I need to get one of those things dammit.

Still feeling things out with the lady of the house, and debating the wisdom of using $200 credit at a store to start a new tank rather than using it to support the one running right now. :| Being without a day job still and all.

Isn't this the tank you were asking if the shape of the overflow teeth will make any differences?

It's still empty???

I feel that if there is less limitations on the whole thing more people may enter. I do like the split division idea as not everyone is into a ten gallon nano.

I'm with the other guy .. no size limits.. just cost cap. That in and of itself will determine the size of tank that people will enter as participants. Just judge them according to the same standards.

How about a points system? Say the judges are given 5 points to award as they see fit for economics. these should be awarded seperatly from points for creativity, asthetics, natural look or whatever, but would still count towards the total winning points. This way, someone who spent say $5000 on a 10g tank would actually LOOSE points for going way overboard, while someone who set up a 60g for $400 would get points for stretching his bucks to the max. Sound good?

I vote for the twenty and under. This is due to already planning a tank for upstairs and am looking around 12 o 18 gallons. Makes perfect timing for this competition.
