Urgent: Help with ich

At which point should hyposalinity be used to treat for ich? I notice some white spots on a new copperband I got yesterday. They used copper at the lfs in the tanks, but I read hyposalinity is preferred. Should this only be done if a lot of ich shows up on the fish, or when you first see any small white specks at all?

NO COPPER MEDS! just lower the salinity and it should take care of it. You can freshwater dip it, but It kinda defeats the purpose. If you dont treat the main tank, the same problem will just arise again. I would do it the instant I see the white spots.

Hypo is more complicated that just lowering the salinity.

If the copperband isn't eating, I don't know if anything will help. If it is eating, feed the crap out of it.

A few spots on a new, delicate, fish is something to watch. Or, set up a q tank for new additions so this won't be a problem in the future.

Hyposalilinty might actually induce the CBB to eat.

You should lower the SG to around 1.007 - 1.009, Salinity should be 13ppt ( a refracto meter is best for hypo).
You can lower the salinty over a period of 8-12 hours, make sure you watch PH beacsue it tends to drop in hyposaline conditions. Keep the fish in hypo for at least 4weeks, 6weeks is preferred. Then raise the salinty over a period of 4days.

The most important thing is to remember to monitor the salinity daily and even if the fish shows no more symptoms, continue the hypo for the recommend period.
