Purchased from the LFS as a trachyphyllia geoffroyi..

It started doing this yesterday, at first the affected area was pink and puffy looking, now it's white and is gradually shrinking. What's up? I've never kept an lps before and I can't find much on this behavior...

It looks like tissue damage (from the photo) is there a fish or something that might be pecking at it :?:

I have a yellow tang, a lamarck's angel, two ocellaris, a green chromis and a firefish. None have ever picked at my other corals before, but this is the first lps I've intro'd to the tank. I haven't noticed anyone bothering it.

Is it possible this kind of damage could come from bumping it into the rock during placement, and that it would take several days to appear? The coral was added approx 1 week ago and getting it into a secure spot took a bit of doing, it's possible I may have bumped it into the rock. If that's the case I'm going to kick myself, the guy at the lfs told me to be careful to make sure that I didn't touch the meat of the coral when I was placing it.

Will this heal on its own or is there something I can do to improve conditions so that the tissue will recover?

J.

I would say i depends on how healthy the tank is weather or not it will heal, I dont know if it will.
