i just inadvertantly fragged my platigyra (sp?) brain coral.

it had been bugging me for months as it had a massive area of die off from the dreaded summer of '03.
i would guess that less than 10% of it lived past the '03 temperature incident and since then it had probably doubled in size.
finally i could stand it no more and pulled it out and started chiseling on it with a screwdriver last night.
i had to quit because it was loud as heck and my family was sleeping, and it was too cold to do it outside.

so i finished it about an hour ago.

i now have two colonies and a couple really small chips that put in som rock crevices hoping they will take hold and maybe look a bit more natural when they get sizable.

so what have you fragged?

Well, last month I bit the bullet and fragged my Superman Monti the same way (hammer and screwdriver). That turned out fine.

The most memorable one was when I tried to frag my S. guttatus by hand. I had no idea that the branches were so strong, so I applied a lot of pressure with my fingers. Being a nail biter, the thin skin around my nails really began to sting and burn. It got so bad that I dipped them in vinegar to kill the pain.
