If this was rock from the ocean, and you trucked it all the way back to Kansas, then I would expect you to have some die off. You should probably cure it then just like uncured rock.
Put it in a container (bucket, trash can, extra tank) with salt saltwater, add a powerhead (or an extra skimmer if you got one) and test the water for ammonia after a little while. If ammonia present, do a water change and test again in a bit.
