A. It's calcium carbonate.
B. You don't want it in the tank - it doesn't help anybody.
C. maybe, just don't get it in the tank.

It forms because you let your kalkwasser contact the air (CO2 in particular). If you reduce that (e.g., a closed container) it will not do that (as much).

It's a calcium carbonate film. Leave it in the limewater container as a CO2 barrier but don't put it in the tank. It means you did a good job mixing and have a saturated solution of limewater, a good thing.

Ahh sweet.. .so is there some trick to getting the water out but not the calcium carbonite film? I mean sure ok start a siphon from inside the mixture, but what about when it gets low... do I just cut my losses and dump the rest of the limewater down the drain?

That's what I do, just dump the last bit.

That, or just mix more before it gets depleted.

One advantage of using the expensive Kalk is the purity allow you to just keep mixing more kalk. Some of the CaCO3 will dissolve when you add more fresh water for the next batch of limewater.

I use a lower grade of Calcium hydroxide so I typically discard all precipitate. That's the advantage of the cheaper Kalk, it's so cheap there's no problem with just dumping the solids.

AHh groovy.. this is a more "expensive" it was "kent brand" whether or not that really translates to higher grade who knows :)
