Can fish hear and if so how is there hearing compared to ours? I just got my tank up and running and the 2 maxi 900's, Mag 7 in the sump, and mag 5 running the ugj makes some noise. Will they be alright? will it shorten there lives?

I cannot begine to give you a comparison to human hearing, but fish hear well enough, and actually communicate with sounds quite often. (clicking, grunting noises) They cannot however hear airborne sounds.

The lateral line that runs the entire length of most fish allows them to detect vibrations.

I had a lawnmower blenny that only came out when I played "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana on my computer speakers..

Somehow, I doubt he heard it, but it was an odd coincidence :)

Maybe it felt the vibrations?

Possibly.. speakers were in the same room as the tank..

Either way, cool fish, I miss him. Wish I had enough algae in the tank to support another one.
