so a flourishign gsp has suddenly complety retracted .. and has for the last 5 days.. its sister.. (though a diffrent species) has not changed at all and everything else is fine..

one oddity is a bout 1/4 - 1/2 inch of it is covered with what apears to be a form of mushroom

any ideas

My various GSP colonies do go through phases where they retract and slough off gook and then open up. Do you notice a whitish dusty type gack on the rubbery mat part of the colony? If so, gently swish water around it to get it off. Also, if it does have some other coral on the same rock it may be the loser in a checmical battle...pics as UL said would help.

sorry no pics.. as all i have is a camera phone.. i can try to grab one from the office..

but other then the fact all the polyps are 100% hidden and it has thsi odd growth it looks fine...

ill try to get a pic up this weekend

I have had that happen too.

Although, mushroom polyps can be quite toxic to many corals.
