I recently combined tanks from a 50 gallon frag tub and 20 tall display tank to a 65 gallon display. I have 2 clowns(from the 20) and a Royal gramma I bought from someone getting out of the hobby. I have researched online what's available from a tank raised perspective and most of the fish that are aquacultured are smaller in size ( I know they get bigger, but I am hoping for something a little larger to start with).

I only want one more fish in the tank and am hoping someone out there knows something I don't. I am also wondering if there are larger fish that are aquacultured, what online vendor do you purchase from?

here is a pic of the new tank:

Tank looks great, joekr!!

I can't think of any bigger fish that are being aquacultured yet...I assume you mean the size of tang or bigger, correct?

Your tank is too small for most tangs long term. This is due not only to their size, but their swimming habits. "Larger" fish in general are not something to be considered for a tank so small quite frankly, inless they are more sedentary such as maybe a dwarf lion, or small species of grouper such as E. hexogonatus. However then they'll eat your smaller fish. :)

You have a 65 gallon tank. Consider providing an expansive environment for a smaller fish, rather than cramming in the biggest fish that will survive for a time in the tank. If you absolutely MUST put a tang in there, and nothing I or anyone else says will disuade you, then stick with one of the smaller Zebrasoma species such as scopas or flavescens.

Jim, thanks for the info. I'm not specifically looking for a tang, but something aquacultured. I used the tang reference strictly to provide an image of the size I was thinking of, though that image I had may have been inaccurate. When I think of a larger fish, I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 1/2 to 3 inches long when mature. I should have stated this.

I guess it's the lack of choices in tank raised fish that has me hitting a wall. It's unfortunate w/ the direction the reefs are headed that more tank raised specimens aren't available...

Maculosus angel. Of course, it gets way too big for your tank.

Dwarf angels. You can find flame and fisher's and I think lemonpeels CB.

Not sure where to buy them. There was a place in HI that was breeding them but not sure if they are still in business. They did interrupta angels also. There was a link here to their site a while back but I can't seem to find it.

well, as much as I like the way the lempn peel works, I've been hearing some bad things about them w/ regard to corals, so I don't want to chance wrecking my tank....back to square one...

Lemonpeels are far and away the WORST pygmy to put in a reef tank.
