I am attaching a quote from another member (whom shall remain nameless) for discussion purposes. Any comments? (Thanks M!)

"Keep in mind that a 250 DE bulb will give you about the same amount of light as a 400 SE bulb at lower power consumption (better efficiency)..."

I'm not really up on the differences in bulbs, but if the bulb can save energy and costs than I'm all over that! Any recommendations for HQI DE bulbs?

Sounds like something I'd say

As the charts below show, 250W DE bulbs can have nearly as much output as a 400W mogul. The smaller DE bulb allows more light to pass through, working more efficiently with the reflector. Also, because the DE bulb isn't encased in glass, like a mogul, there is far less restrike.

Just for quality purposes, I would stick with either a German and Japanese made bulb. Let us know more about what you intend to keep and if you'll be using actinics, too.

The PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon flux Density), or PAR, measures the wavelengths between 400-700nm.
