Just a quick compatibility question.

Hi,

I was just inquiring to whether a yellow clown goby would be safe in with a pink spotted goby? or would the pink spotted goby kill him?

I don't have any experience with the pink spotted goby, but your question got me curious. I did some quick searches, & found that depending on the site that comments on them (mostly vendors), they're considered either peaceful or semi-agressive. Just thinking out loud here, but I think that because he's a watchman goby, he would probably be defensive of whatever he's staked a claim to as a burrow, but not necessarily vicious, per se. I realize its not quite apples to apples here, but I currently have a yellow watchman goby & a green clown goby in my main tank, & they never even go near each other-- the watchman stays down low & the green clown hangs in the upper portions of my rock formation.

For what its worth also, I am currently quarantining a yellow clown goby myself. He's been a picky bugger about eating & got pretty thin, refusing to eat any flake, granule, or frozen foods. I currently have him in a dedicated fuge, where he's been picking on pods & baby brine shrimp I've been hatching. I think he's finally starting to warm up to flake, so hopefully in a month or two he'll fill out & be ready to go into the main tank.

Do you happen to know the genus or species of the pink spotted goby? I would venture a guess that you will have no issues, but it really depends on what species the pink spotted is. In general if it can fit in their mouth, carnivorious fish will probaby eat it sooner or later

Too true... How big is he? The links I've pasted below comment that he's carnivorous, but mostly likes crustaceans. I suppose as long as there's plenty of pods or if you're feeding him well (frozen mysis), & as long as there's enough space to let the yellow clown goby avoid the watchman's burrow, there shouldn't be a problem.

The genus for the pink spotted watchman is Cryptocentrus leptocephals

He's about 3" or so long I would say. The clown goby is probably full grown, or there abouts.

Tank would be 29gals.

Skip it especially in that size tank, C. leptocephalus tend to be a very aggressive shrimp goby.

Hmm. I've had one since the begining of my SW 55g tank, and have not had a problem. But my experience is limited. David you may be correct. How/where did you find this information?

Your tank is a 55 gal his is a 29 gal, notice I said that size tank.
Anyway it's my own and Scott Michael's personal experience.

I put him in at about 3:30 after the first replies. Then when I looked at 3:40ish I saw you say skip it.

Had no problems soo far however, fingers crossed it stays that way.
