how does everybody keep the outside of their glass crystal clear? I can get it 98%, but no matter what I try, I can get rid of all the streaking. of course the particularly tough thing to get rid of is the salt residue. any tips/tricks that work?

I've always just used glass cleaner. I recommend spraying it on the towel before you get near the tank so no overspray ends-up in your water.

I use RO/DI water on a wet towel, the amount of streaking is significantly less than using tapwater (less crud in there!)

I use white vinegar in a spray bottle and a paper towel, I use a cloth towel first if there is any built up salt creep.

Keep spraying and wiping the glass until it is crystal clear.

I use Windex on glass. It is very important that you NOT use an ammoniated window cleaner on any acrylic. It chemically attacks it. On acrylic they have special sprays, or I normally just use some RO water.

Use a commercial vinegar based window cleaner. They usually have some surficants in them though, so you have to watch your overspray.

Our local grocery chain (Wegmans) carries their own branded vinegar based cleaner for cheaps!

I can vouch for that I've cleaned my car windows for years with newspaper. No streaks whatsoever.

I've noticed that windex tends to not work well with my salt tanks. So, I use a wet paper towel and follow it up with a dry one... works great. I like to cut the salt streaks with fresh water. :)

Yup,
Crumble up some newspaper and spray Windex or some such cleaner on it (in another room). The wipe away. No streaks at all. The fibers in the newspaper all act as little squeegies and make perfectly clean glass.

Now if only the INSIDE was so easy!

Later,
Brian
