Hi there all,

I'm becoming a little frustrated with the selection of coral at my LFS and the lure of the shiny websites are nagging my mind.

So I turn to you good reader. Whether it be positive or negative, I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations on purchasing coral online.

Cheers

Be careful when buying corals online. You might have a limited selection, but online you can very easily be scammed with what you're getting. Sure you'll get the coral you want, but the colorations can be vastly different. Many use bluer lights to enhance colors, I know of one site that specifically says they use 20kK bulbs with actinic supplimenting (now who the hell does that!), other sites down right manipulate the photos in photoshop to get a color they want to pop.

I've ordered from several online vendors because of limited LFS selection also. I've tried the following that I would recommend:

Wesleyreefs
Liveaquaria
Reefscience
Robsreef
exoticreefs.us

I would NOT recommend:
Farms-of-thesea

I'd stick with the WYSIWYG sites with live arrival guarantees, and be aware of pics that look altered. You'll definitely have greater selection if you venture online.

I try and buy livestock locally but have bought clams from clamsdirect.com. No problems with them.

I'm going to be buying some frags on-line too because their isn't that great of selection around here and I really want some good SPS frags for my new tank.

Fantastic sites. It's good to know many of you have had positive experiences for the most part.

One catch... all sites listed are ship within U.S. only, and I live in Canada.

I've tried pulling up Canadian online retailers via Google but I'm not scoring any hits. Maybe there just isn't any here...?!

Are there any Canadians who know of an online source?

Jeff's Exotic fish decided to leave out a few things from my shipment, charge me anyway, and ignore all attempts on my part to clear this up.

I'm sorry to report this because I used to think they were highly recommendable.
