It looks like my blue tip stag has some tissue recession at the base. The area began at a place where it had been fragged before I purchased it.

What can I do to stop the recession? I seem to recall reading something about putting iodine on the area some time ago. Will this work?

Any suggestions on what I can do to get this coral healthy again? My other sps are all in good shape, so I think this is an isolated incident directly related to the fragging.

Thanks!

An iodine dip may kill the pathogen or bacteria and stop what may either STN, WBD, or BBD. Do a 5% iodine dip for about 15 minutes.

Another method would be to cover the effected area with epoxy or glue. If neither work, than try and save as many frags as you can. If the frags eventually don't survive, it could be a water condition or environment issue.

Good luck!

Bummer.

I have never had any success with dips or glue, but sometimes it does stop itself. YMMV.

I have had success just fragging the infected area off the coral, kinda an anti frag. Again YMMV.

Keep us posted as to what happens.

Okay, just cut off the infected area at the base of the coral and remounted it. I will post in the morning and let you know if the coral has opened back up again. It's a fuzzy stag, so it's pretty obvious when its polyps are open:)
