I have had my Foxface Rabbit and False Percula for 3 years now. The rest are gone for various reasons. I am redoing my 100 and 50 gallon for fish and creepy crawlies and looking for some very hardy fish. Would like to hear your experiences. I am thinking about Tangs.

My flame angel. He went through a few moves with me, and never made a fuss (health wise). It was very tough trading him away after he developed a taste for SPS.

my yellow tang had been in my 55g the longest. Originally was very sickly looking but turned around when I added macros to the display.

By contrast a new "dory" tang in another tank is always hiding even though it is the only fish in the tank.

I also have a couple of nemos, watchman gobie, a cardnel and some others. But the longest has been the yellow who rules the tank.

but then I have removed several like a coral beauty which were all doing fine also. But they played with the corals.

I have an ocellaris clown that I got for free when I bought liverock last year. The owner said he had had the fish for 7 years and gone through 2 mates. I have had the fish for alittle over a year now and he lived through my tank crash 5 months ago.

Are you looking for recommendations Bang?

Hardy fish - these are all in the "you have to be an idiot to kill one" category.

Groupers: Most genera you're likely to encounter for the home aquarium, including the "Hinds" of the genus Cephalopholis and the true groupers of the genus Epinephelus.

Moray eels, including the Hawaiin Dragon, Zebra moray, Chain link, etc.

Triggers - nuff said. I used to cycle tanks with them in my younger days.

Most tangs of the genus Zebrasoma

Lion Fish - I speak mainly of P. volitans, but other species are just as hardy. Some are a bit more delicate.

i had a blue devil damsel that ended up on the floor for who knows how long... when i got there he looked like he should be dead for some time, i touched him and he flipped out so in the tank he went.. he lived long enough for me to give him away to a buddy that dropped him in the parking lot of an LFS.. forgot the specifics but i found it funny.

as for fish that i like that are hardy, i would point to ocellaris and clarkis.. they are tough as nails.

if you are thinking of a tang, my fish dropping buddy has a powder brown tang that has been very easy to keep and probabaly one of the healthiest looking tangs i have ever seen in person.

it looks like this one... there are two tangs known as powder browns..

Most likely this is becuase it is the only fish in the tank-since no other fish are swimming it thinks that there is possible danger. Add a school of fish or more fish and it will probably come out.

I have a watchman goby that has lived through 2 or 3 epidemics of ich without a scratch. As for FW I have a tetra and a rasbora that have been here for 6 years.

Jim's list has it pretty much covered fer the big fish. :)

My 2 oldest fishes:
Rinecanthus aculeatus: died after 9 years
Siganus vulpinus: 10 years now and still in good health

And for 5 years (all still alive): Amphiprion clarkii, Chromis viridis, Centropyge argii, Synchiropus splendidus.

Clarki...Been through 3 tanks, one of which sprung a massive leak leaving less than a few inches of water and sand.

I had a fresh water Red Belly Pacu that lived like nothing happened after being out of the water for hours on end. I no longer have freshwater just saltwater so my dear freshwater friend is gone, but I would assume still alive.

Longest lived saltwater fish? A dwarf lion that I had for 7 years. Freshwater? I've got a pair of panda corys that are going on 6 years old.

I had a V. Lion live almost 4 yrs before choking to death on a catfish!

My first one choked, years ago, on a squirel fish. I agree with Jim, once eating they are hardy.

Puffers
Rabbit fish
grouper and sea basses
triggers

I find tangs hardy, but some are prone to Ich in a new tank. imo

Before I got into saltwater I had a Jardini Arrowana in my 200g. I had him for 8 years and fed him whole jumbo tiger prawns. Well I fed him one night and he wanted to bring one up and reswallow it while I was asleep...he couldn't get it back down and it lodged in his gills. Two hours later I found him dead.
