fisrt i wen to the lfs and picke dup a lr and touched a sponge on it. it was a black sponge and i heard that these are toxic to just touch ( divers said it last time i was diving) is it true


next Q
are those 3way electronic vualves safe( hayward or somthing like that)


and last Q
will it be ok to turn my magdrives on ang off ( once a minute)

what if i soft start them. any way to do this with x10

Casual contact with black sponges of the genus Halichondria sp isn't dangerous. As always, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water (if you're afraid of toxins, wash it in the hottest water temp you can bare to help denature the toxin). There's a good chance that whatever sponge you touch wasn't toxic at all.

The 3 way Hayward actuated ball valves are safe to use.

It's not a good idea to power cycle Mag pumps that often. I don't know of any way to soft start them.

well since haywards are safe then i dont ned to cycle the mags. :)

i was thinking if the sponge was toxic it would probobly be so stressed tha tit isnt making toxins ( new lr shipment they got in)

kind of how aneomes dont usualy have stinging power after being shipped

Wear gloves and remove the sponge. It's a good idea to remove as much sponge as you can from live rock. Chances are, the black sponge isn't really black sponge at all, but other varieties that are dying off (and thus turning black and smelling racid).

didnt buy it i was just looking throu the lr. :( i like sponges. there so cool lol. Have you ever not had a tank and just go to the fish store all the time to look around anyways. ( i jus tmoved had to getrid of everything)
