Ok, the CBS we rescued has been growing like a weed (check my Algae Woes thread for comparison pix)

I caught him the other night sticking a claw into the cave where my PearlScale pygmy angel sleeps and he actually caught my clown fish by the fin for a few seconds (did a small amount of damage, but George recovered nicely)

I'm afraid I'm going to have to move him and get some more fish friendly shrimp for my tank.

The current tank is a 25G high. I've seen these shrimp kept in smaller tanks, but not really sure if that's what is best for them.

Seeing the size he has reached (and I dunno if he's fully grown yet..I doubt it) would he be okay in my 10gal nano? Or do I need to get a *gulp* larger tank to keep him happy.

Thanks for all responses....

A 10 gal tank for your coral banded shrimp will be fine.
Stenopus spp. are actually cleaner shrimp as they feed on external parasites of fish in the wild. Being carnivorous, in the aquarium they should be target fed meaty foods such as shreds of fish, squid, eel, shrimp, etc. otherwise they will either starve to death or capture what ever prey they can i.e. dying organisms, sleeping fish, etc.

Hmmm...then I probably haven't been feeding him enough. I didn't worry about that as he's gotten HUGE since we got him.
I think I'll get some more meaty foods and ensure he's eating healthy before I move him into the 10gal...but it's nice knowing I can if worse comes to worse.

Thanks so much David, makes me rest easier...

Get rid of him! Experience says the b@stard will eventually grab and kill one of your "named" animals.

How big is he right now? Can't tell from the pic. If you want to curb his hunger a bit, I suggest you feed him more. Try an entire cube of Formula One per day, that should help.

I would take him off your hands, but I live in Canada and you can't ship him up here

Heh..I'll try feeding him a bit more and probably wind up moving him into another one of my tanks.
He's gonna stay with us...my g/f picked him out and if I get rid of him I'll be next to go....

Ive had mine for over a year..He's intimidating to the fish, but more or less harmless...I feed every other day and he does ok...Ive had other CBS over time and have never had a problem with them...This is my experience though and it is very limited...

Well, I'm not gonna kill him and don't know how to destroy him without killing him (barring quantum tunneling and missing mass)

I'd let him free, but he'd probably terrorize the cats :)

I got home tonite and he was doing his stalking thing, so I dropped in a 1/2 cube of squid. He's in shrimpy heaven right now munching on a chunk and happy as a clam (Tridacna sp. of course)

IME, CBS's aren't very reef safe. My friend, who's got a 90 gallon reef tank recently told me: "ya know, I keep losing fish, and my CBS is getting bigger." .... Hmmmm :?

You can always bring him back to the LFS if he gets too aggressive for you. Most animals will not be aggressive towards the rest of your critters if they have an easy regular food source. Just watch out when you cut back feeding to get algae in check.

I've been reducing feeding to wipe out algae for the last few months.
Yesterday, I caught my serpent star with 2 inches of Stubby's (my 3-legged purple-tipped orange linkia) leg in his mouth. A**hole, renamed by the wife since she likes the linkia, is enjoying a tank in the LFS as I write this. Until I cut back feeding, I never had any problems with him.

I agree with other posts, a CBS has no place in any tank of mine. Just to efficient as a predator in a confined area. I ended up taking mine back to the ocean after watching it lunge at passing fish and picking at coral polyps. Which is a shame since they are a good looking species.

ive had mine for over a year, never once did he ever do anything evil at all. It's funny, these guys are 50-50 whether they will be a pain in the buttt or not. For every post that someone makes about them being bad, there are the same amount of posts saying they are fine in another tank.
I love watching it, and he does a good job at cleaning the rocks at night.
