mag, quiet one, little giant???

For what it's worth I just spent my afternoon sucking water out of my carpet due to a MAG9.5!!! :x :x :x The F-ing thing quit running for no aparent reason for the 3rd time in two weeks, this time I didnt catch it in the morning. It got so hot without water running through it the front case warped and sprung a leak. I got it going again but it wont stop leaking so I am runing it submerged until I can get somthing else to run my skimmer. I got so paranoid about the MAG12 Iv ben useing for my return, I went and bought an Iwaki 30rxt and replaced it. And let me teel you when Iwaki says 1100gph they mean it!!! this thing moves alot more water than that MAG12.

Just my opinion, I guess Im just a little POed right now its ben a BAD DAY!

i have a quiet one 3000 on my tank... yes it was noisy for ahwhile... after a few exchanges i decided to tough it out and see if it got better and it did but it took like 3 weeks... i dont even hear the thing and im running it externaly. its been goin steady for 2 years now... heh... and i only cleaned it once... kinda

I have been running a number of MAGs external for a year: 3 of them have died. They over heat and distort the hole the impellor turns in. I have never had a problem with them running internally. And the MAG Co has always replaced them without a question, but it is troublesome to go without one of the pumps for the couple of weeks it takes to get the replacement. All my externals have been switched over to Eheims: they run so cool you can not tell they are on by touching them. They are expensive, but you can find good deals on the net (a 1262 for $116) and they last - I have one that is over 10 years old and still kicking.

Ocean runner - good, inexpensive pumps, you can run them external or submerged.
