What's really scary is there already are bids of just over $200!

Even scarier is the person already sold one for $355!

Wonder if they're related to the Aqua Designz people, or just trying to bank off the name.

It seems it is aquadesignz, I won a $25 gift certificate at a local club meeting.. until I realized that shipping would cost more than the gift certificate is worth.

Did you see the coral the same guy listed with a $1400 reserve? $1400??? The auction ended without meeting the reserve, - the high bid was $395.

I have no affiliation with Aquadesignz.com but I have bought stuff from them before. Anthony is a good guy. He has always sent me top notch stuff. He is not out to defraud anyone. I think you guys are getting the coral for sale confused with the similar Tubastrea aka sun polps. The pictured coral is probably a Dendrophyllia. Look at the dimensions of each polyp >> 1". Much larger than any Tubastrea. Bob Fenner's website gives a little info: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/dendrophylliidae.htm

"Dendrophylliid Genera You're Not Likely To See: (There are others); Balanophyllia, Dendrophyllia, Not distinguishable from very similar Tubastrea without examination of dead skeletal (septal fusion) characteristics. Eguchipsammia: Mud dwelling, azooxanthellate. Heteropsammia..."

I have seen similar polyps sold on the Japanese website http://www.splash-sea.co.jp/index_pc.html for about the same amount of money (after converting to dollars).

Personally, I would not spend that much on the coral in question. But, I do think it is a rare find.

Keep in mind that these stay open in the daylight and close at night . They are also very easy too hand feed.
Thus, not your ordinary sun coral.

Good guy or not, Still highway robbery..I have a rare bleach white Acropora Fromosa in my tank... my reserve is 450 since you cant find this even in the Ocean, I too have two years experience...Id give him 50 bucks shipped!

The fact that he said its never been seen in the US, I find hard to believe...

I hear Anthony is a great guy, too. There's nothing wrong with what he's doing. He's just being a good businessman.

It's really a knock on people that would bid on this. Personally, I don't find it appealing at all, but to each his own. The regular Sun Coral is far more attractive with it's deep orange body and bright yellow polyps. Heck, lots of people don't like the colorful sticks that are glued to my rocks.

Balanophyllia is hardly rare. I can drive to the coast and throw a rock and I will probably hit a colony. So it's rare in the industry....so what? So are Pseudocorynactis spp., or any other azooxanthellate corals. It boggles my mind what people are willing to throw money at.

I went to Anthony's place (back when he has the tanks in his home) to pick up corals for a few times. Knowledgeable fellow. Can't blame the seller for such listing, since it cost him quit a bit of time and money to get the specimen that he auctions off.
