Do you think micro-bubbles have a pos/neg effect on an aquarium. And I don't mean visually, more along the lines of health of the creatures. I believe I have read stuff about this before but it has been a long while.
I don't think they are unhealthy except that a lot of micro-bubbles will lower the amount of light that reaches your corals... and I think they may cause problems with clams, but other than that I think it is mainly an aesthetic issue. The main reason I don't like them is that it makes it very hard to take a decent picture of anything in the tank.
I have saw it somewhere that micro-bubbles irritate clam mantles and some corals. I have a few micro-bubbles in my tank and have not noticed any irritation to my corals sarco. to acro.?
I've read several articles that attempt to debunk the microbubble thing. I don't really think they irritate corals or clams, they aren't dense enough to block light (and they are clear...). Visually I don't think they're ugly but they do get in the way of viewing and taking a picture.
Micro bubbles will increase your disolved oxygen. As far as them bothering clams goes, I doubt it. With a clam's proximity to the surface being inches in some cases, I find it very hard to believe that they never experience micro bubbles.
